Gravenhurst After Thanksgiving: Where Wednesday Goes Next

October 8, 2026

The last Gravenhurst Farmers' Market of 2026 runs this Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gull Lake Rotary Park. The season began on Wednesday, June 3. For eighteen weeks, the middle of the week had a fixed time and a fixed place outdoors.

After this week, the town's calendar keeps Wednesday. It moves it indoors and into the evening. Over the next six weeks, three Wednesdays carry something specific: two nights at the Gravenhurst Opera House, then the first day of holiday tea at Muskoka Wharf. Meanwhile, the Wharf's main attraction drops Tuesdays and Wednesdays entirely. A late-fall week in Gravenhurst ends up shaped differently from summer: busy Thursday through Sunday at the waterfront, with the Opera House picking up the midweek.

Thanksgiving weekend is the hinge

The changeover happens over a few days. The market closes Wednesday. On Saturday, Oct. 10, Muskoka Steamships runs a Thanksgiving dinner cruise aboard Wenonah II from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The operator lists it as a special sailing. Its pages don't give a date for the last public cruise of the season, so the Thanksgiving cruise is the one confirmed sailing on the calendar right now.

The Muskoka Discovery Centre at 275 Steamship Bay Road is closed this Tuesday, Oct. 6, for a private event. After that, it keeps summer hours, Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Sunday, Oct. 18. From Thursday, Oct. 22, through May 25, 2027, it opens Thursday to Sunday only, same hours. That is the Wharf's new week for the next seven months, and it leaves Tuesday and Wednesday to other venues.

The Wednesdays from here

Here is how the midweek slot fills in through November, by date:

  1. Wednesday, Oct. 7. Final farmers' market, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Gull Lake Rotary Park.
  2. Wednesday, Oct. 28. The Lip Sync Legends Showdown at the Opera House, a fundraiser for the Gravenhurst Health Hub. The Rock Bar in Trillium Court opens at 6 p.m., doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under.
  3. Wednesday, Nov. 4. 100 Years From Now at the Opera House.
  4. Wednesday, Nov. 18. Holiday high tea begins at the Blue Willow Tea Shop on Muskoka Wharf and runs until the New Year.

The lip sync night is more involved than the name suggests. Teams compete for a $500 prize across three rounds. In the semifinal, two teams perform on a stage divided down the middle, at the same time, after a draw sets the matchups. During intermission, volunteers collect donations for the Health Hub, given in the name of a favorite team, and those donations count later toward choosing the champion. Groups register through the Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce. General admission tickets are sold through the Opera House.

The Opera House carries the rest of the week, too

Wednesday is the clearest example. Through the rest of October, the Opera House also picks up the weekends left open when the outdoor season ends. The Bomb plays Saturday, Oct. 17. Dan Hill and Andy Kim play Thursday, Oct. 22, the same day the Discovery Centre switches to its shorter week. Grace, 2 follows on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Then comes Friday, Oct. 30. The Spooktacular Haunted House runs from 6 to 8 p.m., with tours leaving from inside Trillium Court every ten minutes. The last tour goes at 7:50. No tickets are needed. Admission is free with a food donation for Gravenhurst Against Poverty. Gravenhurst High School students run it in partnership with the Opera House and the Town, and the Opera House says the tradition goes back more than 30 years. The listing says it's built for all ages, with an exit partway through for anyone who's had enough and would rather get to the candy.

November is busier still:

Date Opera House listing
Wednesday, Nov. 4 100 Years From Now
Saturday, Nov. 7 Tommy Youngsteen
Monday, Nov. 9 O Christmas Tea
Saturday, Nov. 14 The Last Waltz 50th Anniversary
Sunday, Nov. 15 Marta Solek salon concert
Friday, Nov. 20 Elton Rohn

Six listings in seventeen days, with a Monday and a Wednesday among them. In summer, the Opera House shared the calendar with Gull Lake Rotary Park and the Wharf. By mid-November it holds most of the dated events in town.

The Wharf's quieter week has a tea room at its center

Even with the Discovery Centre on a shorter week, the Wharf still has a reason to go on a Tuesday. The Blue Willow Tea Shop at 900 Bay Street posts hours of Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for both the tea room and its British Emporium. The room has 36 seats, overlooks Lake Muskoka and the steamship docks, and serves high tea at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Prices start at $42 per person plus tax, and the shop has been at the Wharf since 2006.

The tea room's calendar has its own changeover. The fall menu runs until Nov. 15, and the holiday menu starts three days later on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The set menu also changes monthly, and the shop strongly recommends reservations. With a room that small, the two holiday weeks before Christmas are the ones to book early. The posted weekly hours aren't dated on the site, so it's worth calling ahead of any holiday visit.

Downtown, the evening hours run longer. Sawdust City Brewing's Saloon and Retail store posts hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sawdust City is also one of the breweries in Oktoberfest Muskoka, which runs through October at participating restaurants and breweries across the region. On Saturday, Oct. 24, the OktoberBAUS BrewBus runs three tours. Two of them pick up at Muskoka Brewery, which lists its address as 1964 Muskoka Beach Road, Bracebridge.

Getting between them means following the Bay Street detour

The walk to the Wharf runs through an active construction zone this fall. Bay and Beyond is a multi-year project between the District of Muskoka and the Town of Gravenhurst. It is replacing water and sewer infrastructure that dates back to 1944. The October update, posted Oct. 3, sends pedestrians to the north side of Bay Street while crews remove the south-side sidewalk. Blue Willow's address is on Bay Street, so that detour is part of the route to tea.

For the week of Oct. 5 to 9, crews are continuing watermain connections at Mary Street South and John Street. Electrical work is starting at the Sarah Street pedestrian crossing, and excavation is continuing ahead of road reconstruction and resurfacing. The contractor works Saturdays but will be off Thanksgiving Saturday, so the night of the Wenonah II dinner cruise falls on a quiet day for the work site. Night work on the Muskoka Road South watermain connection is expected in the coming weeks, with advance notice to affected residents and businesses. Water interruption notices for that connection have already gone out to the properties involved. Weekly updates are posted on the Bay and Beyond project page, which also offers a newsletter sign-up.

Once the work is complete, the project's planned scope includes a new multi-use trail from North Muldrew Lake Road to the Wharf Sports Field and improved parking at the field. It also includes a pedestrian crosswalk downtown at Sharpe Street and Muskoka Road South, and new street lights from Cherokee Lane to Greavette Street. Most of those changes affect how people get between downtown and the waterfront on foot, which matters more in the months when the Wharf is open four days a week.

Where the season lands in November

The Town says Light up the Wharf returns every November, but the 2026 date hasn't been posted yet, and the page asks visitors to check back. Until it is, the clearest fixed dates for mid-November are the Opera House's Nov. 14 and 15 weekend and the start of holiday high tea at Blue Willow on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
